This started out as a tribute to the actress Gabrielle Union, who was one of my favorite crushes during my high school years. It took a while to choose what you might call a theme for the illustration, but I settled upon making her a “Cro-Magnon” woman from the Upper Paleolithic of France around 28,000 years ago. The paintings you see on the cave walls behind her are inspired by those found at French caves like Lascaux and Chauvet.
