This adolescent Tyrannosaurus rex has recently left the protection of their mother’s brood to carve out their own hunting grounds elsewhere in the Cretaceous jungle. Research on tyrannosaurid ontogeny suggests that T. rex would have reached adult size around age 18 after an intense teenage “growth spurt”, rather like humans today. It probably would have needed to hunt with ravenous regularity to keep itself growing during those years!
