By embedding a dazzling set of diamonds into her gold necklace, this woman from somewhere in central Africa is exhibiting the natural mineral wealth of her homeland. Her hairstyle was inspired by one I saw in an old photo of a Fang lady from Gabon.
(Unfortunately, there is an infamous darker side to the diamond-mining industry in much of Africa. Its effects have included frequent worker abuse and exploitation, destruction of the natural environment, and many bloody wars and other eruptions of violence that have torn African nations and communities asunder.
