This is my artistic reconstruction of one of the so-called “Grimaldi Man” specimens from the Upper Paleolithic of Italy. These remains actually represent two individuals, one a middle-aged woman and the other a boy in his mid- to late teens (the latter being what I chose to represent here). Originally dated to fairly late in the Paleolithic period, the Grimaldi people are now thought to have lived between 26,000 and 22,000 years ago if not earlier.
