Nanuqsaurus hoglundi is a medium-sized tyrannosaurid that hunted in Alaska during the Late Cretaceous Period circa 70 million years ago. Although it derives its genus name from an Inuit term for polar bears and is often portrayed in snowy winter backdrops, it should be noted that temperate rainforests similar to those of modern Washington State or New Zealand would have covered its environment and the polar regions in general at that time. As the top predator of its habitat, Nanuqsaurus would have hunted dinosaurs such as the hadrosaur Edmontosaurus and the ceratopsian Pachyrhinosaurus.
