I wanted my prince Taharqa to have an adversary to fight, so I drew an Assyrian swordsman and then placed them both in a photo of a Palestinian desert landscape that I found on Shutterstock. The inspiration for this scene comes from passages in the Bible that mention “Tirhakah” (who would have been a prince at the time) fighting the Assyrian army around 701 BC, during the reign of King Hezekiah of Judah.
