I’ve never been religious, but I will admit I do find the story of Exodus somewhat interesting for its intercultural conflict. How much grain of truth the story has to it is unknown, especially since the Bible never names the Pharaoh who serves as its antagonist. What we do know the Egyptians had hegemonic control of the Palestinian region during the New Kingdom period, so I can believe the early Hebrews rebelled against their authority on at least one occasion. We do have an Egyptian inscription from the reign of Merneptah naming Israel as an enemy nation they “laid waste to”, so clearly there was a Hebrew polity named Israel back then.
As for the Pharaoh in my portrayal, I went with Hatshepsut simply because she’s probably the most fascinating Egyptian pharaoh to me, being one of the few female ones and all.
